Who doesn't love grapes? They are deliciously juicy and nutritious. Known to be low in calories, grapes are virtually fat-free. They are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals and are known to be an absolute delight. Growing on vines, they change their colour as they are ripe. From green to purple, and red to black, you can easily get them anywhere in the world.

They all are nutritious, however, have some different set of minerals that help in your health.
For example, red grapes are filled with the goodness of resveratrol which is an antioxidant and thus, helps in protecting against cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and related ailments. Both green and red variants are linked with weight loss due to the presence of protein and fibres. Doctors also recommend including grapes in your diet to enjoy its innumerable health benefits. But there is a drawback to eating grapes!

Going overboard with your favourite fruit can cause more harm than good. The major consequence of eating too many grapes is the size, it is too small and therefore, can be deceiving. You can binge eat this tiny fruit like no one else's business and just forget about it. This will add on to the calories you consume and hence, can have adverse effects on your health. A bowl of grapes on a daily basis which consists of thirty to forty grapes is acceptable but anything more than that can lead to some unavoidable side effects.

Diarrhoea/constipation
Grapes are high in natural sugar and excess consumption of foods with the high sugar content can result in loose stool. Also, grapes are rich insoluble fibres and an overdose of these can interfere with the digestive functioning leading to diarrhoea or constipation.
Abdominal pain
The undigested seeds of grapes can cause serious abdominal pain and in severe cases lead to appendicitis. You might also experience irritable bowel, a syndrome due to overconsumption of grapes leading to discomfort in the abdominal area.

Weight gain
Overeating of grapes can lead to a significant increase in weight. Although, these are filled with fibres and contents fewer calories but eating them as a snack can defeat the purpose. These are high in natural sugars and therefore if not consumed in limit can also lead to a spike in blood glucose level. It is always advised to consume grapes or any other food in a limited amount to enjoy its maximum benefits.
Allergy
Overeating of grapes can trigger certain allergies. Although, it is a rare phenomenon, when caused can be problematic. A certain protein present in the grape is responsible for the allergic reaction. You can characterize grape allergies by red patches on your skin or a bad headache, vomiting and in extreme cases anaphylactic attack due to difficulty in breathing. This attack can be life-threatening, therefore, in case of any doubt get an allergy test done.
Gastric
Never eat grapes on an empty stomach. Too much of grapes can cause acidity and also interfere with gastro-intestinal lining leading to gastric, headache and vomiting. Due to the presence of salicylic acid, grapes can cause irritation in your stomach.
