In 2009, a woman in Florida created a Guinness World Record for having the longest locks. The 60-year old woman is in the news again for she is continuing to hold the record. Now the length of her hair extends to a whopping 110 ft.
Asha Mandela began to grow her hair about 40 years ago when she moved to New York, USA. In November 2009, the recorded length was 19 ft and 6.5 inches. Her pictures on Instagram show that she often carries her hair in a bag and flaunts it with pride.

However, she is not the only one in the world to hold world records for their hair. Here are seven more instances where people have made it to the Guinness World Record for their hair. Take a look.
Longest Hair Before Mandela
In 2004, Xie Qiuping of China won the Guinness Record for the longest head of hair. The length was 18 ft and five inches. She had been growing her hair since 1973 when she was only 13.
Most Hairy Family
Hailing from Mexico, Jesús "Chuy" Fajardo Aceves and Luisa Lilia De Lira Aceves are members of a family of 19, with people hailing from five generations. They all have congenital generalised hypertrichosis.
It is a rare condition in which a person has excessivehair growthon their face and torso. Men in the family have thick hair covering approximately 98% of their bodies, while women’s bodies are covered with light-to-medium thick hair. Their palms and soles remain uncovered.

Teenager With Longest Hair
In August 2022, a Gujarati teenager got her name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for growing her hair since she was six. She used to call her locks her ‘lucky charm’.
She shared that she used to wash her hair once a week. Drying them used to take her half an hour, and combing through was another hour-long task. At the age of 16, Nilanshi Patel finally cut her hair. At that time, her hair was more than five feet.

Tallest Mohawk Spike
Belonging from Japan, a fashion designer invested more than 15 years in growing his Mohawk spike. Kazuhiro Watanabe made the Guinness World Record with a four feet tall spike.
In April 2014, it took a team of stylists at least two hours, a whole jar of gel, and three spray cans to keep the spike intact.

World’s Largest Afro (Female)
In March 2012, Aevin Dugas from the USA won the title for having the largest afro with a circumference of four feet and seven inches. She did not realise that her mention in the Guinness Record would have the impact on the Natural Hair movement that it did.
She confessed in one of her Instagram posts that it started a certain level of appreciation for African American textured hair. Her caption read, “It’s funny because so many made little comments, and they were blatantly disrespectful at Natural Hair Events at times, but I always dealt it with grace.(sic)”

In December 2020, fashion designer Simone Williams broke Aevin Dugas’s Guinness Record for the world’s largest afro. Her afro was more than eight inches tall and wide.

Widest Wig
Made by Kelly Hanson and Randy Carfa*gno Productions, a wig measuring seven feet and four inches grabbed the title for being the widest wig in the world. In 2017, Hollywood star Drew Barrymore made an appearance wearing the wig on The Tonight Show in New York.
