Most Chase deposit accounts don't have minimum opening deposit requirements. The bank's various fees and low savings account rates, compared to what some competitors offer, are drawbacks.
Why is Chase Bank so popular?
JPMorgan Chase is the largest bank in the country and offers a robust menu of services and products. It provides mortgages, auto loans and one of the broadest selections of credit cards in the industry. And its website experience can compete with that of online-only banks.
Chase Total Checking comes with a $12 monthly maintenance fee, while Wells Fargo Everyday Checking customers are charged $10 a month. Both banks waive the fees when the accounts take in direct deposits totaling $500 or more each month. You also can avoid the monthly charges by maintaining a daily balance.
Bank failures happen more often than you might think—there have been 568 in the U.S. since January 1, 2000. That's an average of almost 25 per year. But the back-to-back collapses of Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) and Signature Bank in early 2023, followed by First Republic Bank in May, were unique in more ways than one.
Overall, Bank of America appears to be in a relatively healthy financial position and is not currently in imminent danger of collapse.
