Is it worth buying The Witch Queen?
Even if you have no desire to grind for loot or engage with the rest of Destiny 2's muddled live-service sandbox, Witch Queen is worth playing all by itself. It even has mission checkpoints.
The campaign alone is worth the price of admission. Bugs and PvP aside, The Witch Queen delivers the best version of Destiny 2 yet. The Witch Queen is not only the best and most complete version of Destiny 2, it's the foundation for something better still.

You only get Witch Queen. You have to buy the rest separately. Legacy DLC is sold seperately from the current one. All of the older expansions from the Forsaken Pack to Beyond Light are bundled together in the Legendary Edition (which I would recommend holding off on getting until it is on sale).

Every player, from those who started playing on day one of release to those just now picking up the game, will start The Witch Queen at the Power level of 1350. This ensures that everyone can start the expansion on the same footing, even if you've never played before. The new Power level soft cap is 1500.
Shadowkeep. Shadowkeep is the least substantial expansion of your three choices, but if you're adamant on playing all available content, this should be your starting point. This expansion also regularly goes on sale, so in terms of bangs for bucks, you can't go wrong here.
Which edition of Witch Queen should I buy?
If money isn't an issue and you know you're all in on Destiny 2, my suggestion would be to purchase the Deluxe Edition 30th Anniversary Bundle. This will give you all content (probably) throughout the entirety of 2022.
Destiny 2 is absolutely worth playing, if you can love it for the beautiful mess of systems and overlapping expansions. While it is free, and I'd encourage anyone to try it, you'll undoubtedly get more out of its systems, story, and setting by picking up the expansions.

Void is now undeniably the best Subclass for Hunters in The Witch Queen.
The Legendary Campaign is just as difficult when playing solo, as a duo, or with a full Fireteam. Playing solo also means that you will lose the ability to revive in Darkness zones. Just be prepared for a lot of trial and error, as well as some heavy frustration.
No Which Queen will not include or get you access to Beyond Light. They are separate DLCs. You will need to purchase each to get access to their associated content.

Best Overload Weapons to Get Before The Witch Queen
Friction Fire and Extraordinary Rendition can come with a higher range stat than other Kinetic SMGs, and perks like Overflow, Subsistence, Zen Moment, Rampage, Frenzy, and Vorpal Weapon are fantastic to deal with rank-and-file enemies.
The Parasite exotic grenade launcher will be your reward after completing “Of Worms and Queens” quest from Mara Sov. You won't be able to start the Of Queens and Worms quest until you finish the main campaign of The Witch Queen expansion. So the Parasite Exotic might be one of the last exotics you'll collect.
Witch Queen's story is genuinely good, with a strong central mystery and an antagonist who manages to be intimidating yet understandable when we delve into her past and true motivations. There are some story revelations here that are just wonderfully well done, most of them which I was not expecting.

Can I play The Witch Queen solo?
Short version... The game is fine for solo if you are ok with sorta teaming up for some things. Even if you had WQ there is not a lot to do as a solo player, and while technically possible, most things are just painful/frustrating without a team.
Probably the most noteworthy things leaving are the locations the Tangled Shore and the H.E.L.M. Wings for the Eliksni and Awoken. What this means is that anything associated with those locations will become unavailable for unlocking.
The Witch Queen is a standalone DLC. It does not grant access to previous DLC. If you want the older stuff, you have to buy it separately.
