Do you need ventilation for propane forge?
It is extremely important to work in a well-ventilated area outdoors when you are building a forge at home. A well-ventilated workspace prevents the buildup of carbon monoxide. If you are working in a garage, open the garage door and install a carbon monoxide detector.
It's safe to bring it indoors, but not to fire it up. Burned propane produces carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide as byproducts. They will kill you if you're in an enclosed space with poor ventilation.

Coal, coke or charcoal may be used as fuel. Charcoal is very clean and there is little to contaminate the metal. It is of low density, however, and greater amounts must be burnt to provide enough heat for bigger jobs.

Step 6: Insulate your forge

We ALWAYS recommend using a respirator mask. Regular dust masks/N95 masks will not filter out the harsh chemical vapors created when resin and hardeners are mixed. When you apply heat to your resin pieces to create effects and pop air bubbles, those fumes are blown around and should not be inhaled.

Propane is very easily obtained and has the advantage of being portable, cleaner, and hotter than coal and charcoal. If you own a propane torch, you can just use that to heat metal. If you plan to do a lot of smithing or building, purchasing a propane forge will become a consideration.
Typical forge welding temperatures for a propane forge are accepted as 2,300 degrees F, and common forging can be accomplished at a lower temperature. The body must be painted so that it will be protected from corrosion.
