Are people in specific professions more likely to cheat? According to dating sites for people looking for a bit on the side, yes. In 2015, married-dating site Illicit Encounters ranked its users – 970,000 of them – by profession and found a higher proportion of certain jobs. Then in 2016 their findings were confirmed when another dating site for the attached, VictoriaMilan, surveyed 5,658 female clients about their jobs. According to Illicit Encounters and VictoriaMilan, these are the jobs with the most cheaters.

20. Retail
Retail workers made up only 1 per cent of Illicit Encounters’ customers, indicating that they were among the least likely to cheat. It could be because they don’t really have much opportunity during their work hours.

19. Hospitality and Tourism
In the hospitality and tourism industry, Illicit Encounters found fewer people prone to cheating. However, VictoriaMilan found that those working in the nightlife environment, such as bartenders, are more likely to cheat. It seems that it all comes down to opportunity.

18. Admin and Customer Service
People who work in admin or customer services aren’t as likely to cheat as, say, bankers. In fact, Illicit Encounters found that only 1 per cent of their customers worked in this field.

Retiring is a big step and the emotional adjustment can be as hard as, or even harder than, the financial one. It’s no wonder that many retirees struggling with a sudden feeling of emptiness try to fill the void with a new, illicit love. The action, glitz and drama of the advertising, media and entertainment world make for an environment very conducive to cheating. When the champagne flows at an event, after all, sound judgement flies out of the window. Besides, media workers have one of the most stressful careers and need some form of release, even if it’s at the cost of their relationship.

With their fame, fortune and fit bodies, sports stars have a lot going for them that could make any fan more than willing to forget the fact that the object of their desire has a partner at home. Interestingly it’s not only the athletes themselves that are prone to cheating but their managers too.

The legal profession has its fair share of cheaters too, according to the married-dating sites. And it’s not only lawyers and judges that like a bit on the side either: a good proportion of cheaters in the studies were legal secretaries.
