Sea of Thieves is a popular MMO in which millions of players live out their pirate fantasies by sailing, fighting, and hunting hidden treasures over immense seas and mysterious islands. The world of the game is vast, with numerous mysteries and booty to be unearthed and seized – but which treasure chest in the game contains the greatest prize? Where is the rarest chest in Sea of Thieves located?
The most valuable treasure in the Sea of Thieves is the Box of Wondrous Secrets. It is arguably the rarest item in the game that can still be obtained. The big black box wrapped with a rope, with a large red wax seal and yellow glowing markings on the sides, is worth 25,000 gold – which also makes it one of the most expensive items.
“Stitcher Jim discovered the Box of Wondrous Secrets while sailing with the Forsaken Shores Alliance. When he opened the box and looked inside, he realized the contents were unimaginable, which drove him nuts. In order to bring the Box of Wondrous Secrets to his employer, The Gold Hoarder, Jim betrayed the Forsaken Shores Alliance, killing everyone save Grace Morrow, who Jim poisoned.”
Where to Find the Box of Wonderous Secrets in Sea of Thieves
The Box of Wondrous Secrets can be found in random locations surrounding the Devil’s Roar (except in Molten Sands Fortress, Morrow’s Peak Outpost, and Seaposts). Be sure to look for them thoroughly because they can spawn both underwater and buried in the sand. If you happen to find it, The Box of Wondrous Secrets can be sold to Grace Morrow at Morrow’s Peak Outpost, or to The Servant of the Flame located at The Reaper’s Hideout.
Now that you know what is the rarest chest in the Sea of Thieves, it’s time to set sail for Devil’s Roar and start grinding those very valuable wondrous chests.
Ancient Skeleton gets you some ancient coins, and Box of Secrets gets you 25k gold. More so than the rest, The Box of Secrets needs a buff, 25k gold isn't honestly that much considering how incredibly rare it is, and once you've sold it, that's it, you get nothing for having found it.
If you can manage to defeat a Siren Leader, there is a high chance that they will drop a Trident for you. Apart from Shrines, the Trident can also be found on the shore of any island or amongst shipwrecks and floating barrels. During your voyages, you might come across a Kraken or a Megalodon.
There are a lot of variants of the blunderbuss (a shotgun-like firearm) in Sea of Thieves. One of the rarest is the Kraken Blunderbuss. This weapon is easily recognizable by its pinkish color, yellow tiger's eye gem, and the beak-like metal spikes that run down the length of the top and bottom of the gun barrel.
The Box of Wondrous Secrets can be found: Randomly spawned on islands in the Devil's Roar, excluding Molten Sands Fortress, Morrow's Peak Outpost, and Seaposts. It can appear both on sand or under water.
The King's Bounty Skull is a rare Kingly treasure you can discover randomly in the Sea of Thieves. Specifically, you can find King's Bounty Skulls in emergent shipwrecks, Bounty Quests from Messages in a Bottle, and emergent Skeleton Captains, including Ashen Guardians.
“The Ashen Athena's Chest Voyage or the Skeleton Bounty Voyage(s) will have the highest average profit per minute — in other words, these will be the most lucrative when factoring in both net earned gold and the time taken to complete the voyage.”
The Chest of Boundless Sorrow is an extremely rare cursed chest. You can only find the Chest of Boundless Sorrow during the Legendary Search for Cursed Treasure voyage.
A Reaper's Chest may spawn inside a random Shipwreck every hour after the server start time. This is a good indicator of global Barrels respawns as well that replenish their contents every 30 minutes. The Chest will despawn with the Shipwreck if they haven't been interacted with for more than a few hours.
