What kind of Background do you need?
The only background you will need is to willing to learn and commit yourself to the learning process. Success is having a goal and continuously working to achieve the goal. So with any background you can learn the SAP software and launch your SAP Career. I have successfully taught and got jobs for people SAP ECC software with people in Science major, Literature and arts majors. They are all successful in their jobs.
I do not know programming Can I learn:
Not every IT Person knows programming and it not required to know programming. Typically in a SAP Implementations 90% are business people and 10 % person are developer who code in the system. The job you will be trained is going to be SAP System Administration which does not involve coding. It involves system analysis.
Here is analogy. Let us say you buy a Car. Now you can get the car customized put a new seat cover, new bumper, new tire rims, update lights, update interior etc. The Car is like SAP. The guys who take apart the engine are the core engineers who developed the SAP ECC System. The mechanics who fix the small problems are the people who coding in the SAP System. The other people who put all the add-ons into the car also make money. All people who put the new seats, new lights, new tires etc do not know about the inner workings of the car. In a same way you do not need to know all the inner working of the SAP ECC System. You need to be skilled you your specialized area of expertise.
Be a Specialist and get paid highly:
Generalist will know many things but will not be expert in anything. When you are expert in something you get paid very highly. Here are some of the core areas where NON IT People can specialize.
