How Are Dumpster Sizes Calculated?
A dumpster’s exterior is typically measured in feet, while its total volume is measured in cubic yards. To calculate the capacity of a dumpster, multiply its exterior dimensions in feet (length x width x height) together to get its volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert the measurement to cubic yards. We offer a wide range of residential dumpster sizes, so we can customize a recommendation specifically for your needs when you order.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size dumpster do I need for my project?
The roll off dumpster size that fits your job depends on your scope of work and the type of materials you’re tossing. A 10 yard dumpster would be fitting for a small attic or garage cleanout or heavy debris removal, while a 40 yard container would work for a full-home or business renovation. Contact our team for an expert size recommendation.
Will my roll off dumpster have a weight limit?
Yes, each of our residential dumpster sizes has a set weight limit which reflects the amount of debris that is covered within your quoted price. Going over this limit will result in an additional fee. Use our weight calculators to estimate the tonnage of your debris ahead of time and help you decide which dumpster size to rent for your cleanup.
Where should I keep my dumpster?
Your dumpster rental should be placed on a flat, firm area, such as a parking lot or your driveway. Our delivery trucks require about 60 feet of space in a straight line and the placement location should be about 10.5 feet wide. You may also be able to place your container in the street, though permits are required in certain areas. Find more tips on preparing for your dumpster delivery here.
