I am a junior this year and I have decided to pursue the IB diploma. This is one of the highlights of the district, they have a wide variety of classes, taught by experienced teachers who are happy to help. This has been my main experience at the district, though since joining the IB program I have encountered obstacles to my learning. The program's main problem is the small number of IB students. IB students may be put in AP level classes, making it harder to get IB level learning, and IB classes may be taught by teachers with no former IB experience. I was not made aware of these challenges before I entered the program. This is not the case for all IB classes, many are very well run. All this being said I do believe that the IB program is a valuable program and the coordinators do their best despite setbacks. A bonus is that we do not have to pay for our AP exams, allowing everyone the opportunity to take the test. My teachers have always made time for me and my peers when struggling to wrap our minds around a topic or tough concept. The main reason I did not grade the district an A+ is because of the high school building. The almost century old building has many issues such as leaks, bricks missing outside by the bus entrance, and no air conditioning. Everyone is so helpful when you struggle with the academics, there are so many resources at the students disposal. The school was flexible with the students enviorment, as long as it was safe! Their were times where I felt overwhelmed and was allowed to take a moment in the quiet hall to calm myself, then my teacher came and checked on me. It was appreciated and they talked to me until I felt better. While the food was not good, most if not all schools lack tasty food for lunch.
