Marseille soap to get rid of moths (2024)

Moths (larvae and adults) are small insects that can damage garments and household linen. They feed on textile fibre making holes in your favourite clothes and throws !

There’s nothing like Marseille soap made with olive oil to get rid of them.

Instructions for use

  1. Hang a slice of olive oil Marseille soap in your wardrobe. You can also put a bit in the pockets of your garments.
  2. Place a cube or slice of olive oil Marseille soap in your linen cabinets in between the folds of your linen.
  3. A few months later, when the soap has dried up, remember to replace it.

Our tip: When it’s dry, use the Marseille soap in the bathroom. It will be even gentler on your skin.

Why do moths get into our clothes and linen ?

We talk about moth bites but adult moths are not the culprits who eat into our fabrics. The holes are the work of larvae hatching from the eggs laid and buried in the fabrics by adult moths. The larvae feed on textile fibre and use it to make their cocoons before they in turn become moths.
So, to prevent moth larvae from invading your wardrobes and cabinets, the first thing to do is to stop the adult moths from making themselves at home.

How come Marseille soap is a moth repellent ?

Adult moths are very sensitive to certain odours. The oils in real Marseille soap made with olive oil act as repellents so that the moths are not inclined to lay eggs and breed in your wardrobes and cabinets.

Where to buy real Marseille soap ?

Marseille soap has not yet been awarded a protected origins label. This means that there are a lot of counterfeits on the market.

To be sure you’re buying real Marseille soap, make sure it has the logo of the Marseille Soapmakers’ union, Union des Professionnels du Savon de Marseille, on it. The Marius Fabre soap factory is one of the four founding members of the soapmakers’ union. The “Savon de Marseille” logo is a warrant of authenticity and strict compliance for the composition, the manufacturing process and the geographical origins of the soap.
