Faith works through love. Or to say a bit more, faith results in good works done in love. The idea was not entirely new with Paul. Jesus said something much like that in the Sermon on the Mount where he said that “every good tree bears good fruit” (Matthew 7:17).

Faith in a relationship context is being willing to step into a place of uncertainty, because it's in that space that a relationship has the opportunity to grow. Connection is the purpose of our existence, and we must risk pain with the belief that caring for someone is worthwhile, no matter the outcome.

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, Paul writes, “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love,” leading some Christians to conclude that love is more important than faith or hope.

The Bible says that our faith won't work if our love is not working. When we are rooted and grounded in God's love, our faith ignites His power. But when our love generators are damaged or no longer operating because of offense, unforgiveness, or disobedience, we can't expect the manifestation of our prayers.
