How do I get my bypass code for Duo? ›

To generate a bypass code: Log in to the Duo Admin Panel and click Users in the left sidebar. Select a user by clicking their username. Scroll down to the bottom of the user properties page and click the Add Bypass Code button.

Enter the email address that you use to log in to your Duo administrator account. Click Continue. Click the Forgot Password link. Enter your email address again and click Submit.

Duo is a two-factor authentication solution that helps organizations boost security by verifying user identity, establishing device trust, and providing a secure connection to company networks and applications.

When you enroll in Duo for the first time and choose to add an Android device or use Duo Push, you're shown a QR code to scan with the Duo Mobile app to complete activation. Launch Duo Mobile and tap Set up account. To proceed with adding your initial Duo account to Duo Mobile, tap Use a QR code.

After completing primary authentication, Duo will send a one-time passcode via SMS, delivered to their phone. Users then type the passcode into the authentication prompt on-screen and press enter to authenticate and access their account. Users can get new passcodes sent to their phones at any time.

Duo Bypass Codes can be used to access resources protected by Duo when your device is unavailable. You may also need to use Bypass codes if your device is lost, stolen, or replaced. Bypass codes should be placed in a secure location.

This most commonly occurs when you get a new device, reformat or restore a device, delete the Duo Mobile app, or temporarily disable an account on which you have enabled two-factor authentication. In order for passcodes to work again, you must reconnect your account(s) to the Duo Mobile app.

If you have a hardware token, you can use it to generate a passcode. You can also use a security key. If your organization allows SMS passcodes as an authentication method and you received the passcodes before the authentication device went offline, you can use them to complete 2FA.
