'Icon of the Seas' 5 times larger than Titanic; know all about the new cruise ship (2024)

It seems the world did not learn anything after the recent Titanic submarine disaster and the sinking of the main Titanic ship itself. Now, a new cruise ship called 'Icon of the Seas' is all set to launch, and it claims to be the ‘world’s largest cruise ship’.

The RMS Titanic was at the time the largest ship in the world. The Royal Caribbean International, people behind creating Icon of the Seas, has now staked a claim to their "first-of-its-kind" ship being five times larger than the ill-fated Titanic.

All about Icon of the Seas

Icon of the Seas measures 1,198 feet long, with 250,800 gross tonnage. The cruise ship has 20 decks, seven swimming pools, and "record-breaking" waterslides. The large ship can carry 7,600 guests and 2,350 crew members.

How is the Icon of the Seas bigger than the Titanic?

The Titanic in 1912 was more than 852 feet long, with 46,329 gross tonnage. The Icon of the Seas' tonnage is five times that of the Titanic. The Icon of the Seas will be operational in January 2024. Here is what the ship’s areas look like:

At the front of the ship is the ‘AquaDome’, with a 55-foot waterfall and 220-degree views.

There is a Mediterranean restaurant and two-floor sundeck in the ‘Suite Neighborhood’.

The ship has its own five-deck-high and open-air ‘Central Park’ with real plants.

There are four swimming pools and a swim-up bar on ‘Chill Island’.

There’s more – ‘Thrill Island’ has the largest waterpark at sea, called ‘Category 6’.

A Family Area called ‘Surfside’.

‘Royal Promenade’ with direct views of the ocean.

A full 180-degree view at ‘The Hideaway’, which also has an infinity pool.
