Bugs naturally are attracted to vibrant colors such as orange, yellow, or white. Colours such as blue and green will not register as vividly when viewed in the ultraviolet spectrum, which deters bugs away from those colored items.

One color that the majority of birds avoid is white. A dull or bright white signals alarm and danger to birds, causing them to avoid those areas.

Bugs are attracted to different colors for various reasons, including the reflection of light, the emission of heat, or the presence of certain chemicals or compounds. However, in general, bugs tend to be less attracted to colors such as yellow, green, and red.

To keep the bugs away, try and avoid installing lights in the cooler light spectrum. Trying switching to a warmer, yellower light. Insects don't see nearly as well in the yellow to infra-red spectrum. Since they can't see yellow lights as much, they won't be as drawn to them.

For best results, wear white. This lack of color will typically make bees and wasps leave you alone. In fact, the next time you see a beekeeper, you'll know exactly why the outfit is white.
